Description
The Bakehouse is a rare gem. We embrace the nostalgia of old-fashioned bakeries and the taste of home-made goodness. Everything is made on premises, on demand, and from scratch with real ingredients.
It all started with the Riviera Pastry Shop in Ardsley in the 1950s. Over the years, it changed hands a few times.
In 1994, Kaye Hansen and her husband, Peter Simon, purchased the business and renamed it The Riviera Bakehouse. Kaye had a lifelong passion for scratch baking. She honed her craft at home, in restaurants, and at her first bakery, The Runcible Spoon in Nyack, New York. Together, Kaye and Peter transformed the Riviera Bakehouse from a small local bakery into a destination.
In 2011, Kaye's daughter, Liv, purchased the bakery from Kaye and Peter, rebranding it simply as THE BAKEHOUSE. Liv had worked alongside her mother since the beginning. With Kaye's recipes and Liv's eye for decorating, an excellent collaboration was formed. Liv and Kaye authored 4 books together, including the "Whimsical Bakehouse - Fun to Make Cakes that Taste as Good as They Look".
But after 70+ years in business, the beloved Bakehouse (in Ardsley) closed its doors on January 27, 2024. It was a difficult decision, but we feel it was the right one for us and our work-life balance. We know this local institution will be sorely missed, but all is not lost!!
Enter The Bakehouse at the Tarrytown Train Station (it opened in 2020). Our bakery-café is smaller than the Ardsley location, so we will no longer offer Custom Cakes or a few other items, but we will continue to make many of the delicious baked goods you have grown accustomed to!
The Bakehouse offers baked breakfast items, a full coffee bar, a breakfast & lunch menu, quiche, grab and go dinners, 6"cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. So please stop by!
